After a nine-year hiatus, Alesha Dixon has made her long-awaited return to music with the release of her new single, "Ransom."
The track, which blends dancehall, reggae, and a sample from Ini Kamoze's iconic "Here Comes the Hotstepper," marks a significant comeback for the former Mis-Teeq member.
In an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone UK, Alesha shared her thoughts on her return to music: “I think that the beauty of being at this point in my life, the age that I’m at, with the experience I’ve had, and also being an independent artist, I’ve got a bit more of a relaxed attitude about it.” She expressed her excitement for "Ransom," a song that aligns with her authentic self and musical roots.
The music video for "Ransom" was shot in Port Antonio and Kingston, Jamaica, where Alesha's father hails from. The video captures the vibrant energy and cultural richness of Jamaica, reflecting Alesha's heritage and personal connection to the island.
Alesha Dixon first rose to fame as part of the girl group Mis-Teeq, known for hits like "Scandalous," "One Night Stand," and "All I Want." As a solo artist, she achieved success with tracks such as "The Boy Does Nothing" and "Breathe Slow," showcasing her versatility and talent.
Reflecting on the challenges of the music industry, Alesha explained, “The business aspect of it is what has put me off going down that road again... But the love and the desire of making music has never faded.” Her return with "Ransom" is not just a musical comeback but a celebration of her journey and growth as an artist.
Fans have eagerly welcomed her return, with one saying, "Alesha's 'Ransom' is a powerful blend of rhythmic dancehall and reggae beats that celebrates her roots and showcases her incredible talent." Another fan added, "This is the Alesha we have all been waiting for since Mis-Teeq!"
Looking ahead, Alesha hopes to record a reggae album in Jamaica and tour once again, sharing the stage with her children. While a Mis-Teeq reunion isn't off the table, Alesha emphasized the importance of the relationship between the group members and the right timing for such a venture.
Alesha Dixon's return with "Ransom" is a powerful statement of her enduring passion for music and her ability to evolve while staying true to her roots.
